The upper body opens with fourteen drawers with oak grooves, two of which are in the cornice, and a central leaf decorated with an arch flanked by four pilasters with Corinthian capitals and bases. The leaf reveals a theater equipped with fourteen drawers, four of which are secret. The lower body opens with two drawers in the fascia and two doors. The whole thing is based on a fretted complaint. Flanders or Paris, 17th century period. Total dimensions: 206.5 x 146 x 51.5 cm. Upper part: 91.5 x 141 x 49 cm. Lower part: 115 x 146 x 51.5 cm. \nOur Cabinet presents an architectural decor with a tripartite facade similar to the furniture produced by Pierre GOLE in the second half of the 17th century. The two side parts open with five drawers surrounded by ebony moldings. The central tympanum is crowned by a gallery of gilded bronze balusters enriched with acanthus friezes and pewter scrolls in ebony backgrounds. It is bordered by four threaded tin pilasters with Corinthian capitals and bases which rest on bases decorated with large acanthus. This craftsman distinguished himself in the manufacture of luxury seats with works of noble character and very brilliant execution. The Mobilier national preserves from him a large shepherdess, from the time of Louis XVI, offering scrolled armrest consoles, of an unusual model. Other specimens of his work were part of the collection of the Vicomte de Froissard-Brossia dispersed in 1919, and of the former furnishings of Madame la Duchesse d’Avaray at the Ch\u00e2teau de Mareil-le-Guyon. One of his most admirable creations is an alcove sofa, richly carved and gilded, which obtained a bid of 56,500 francs at the Jacques Doucet sale in May 1912, and which has since appeared in the A. Sussmann collection.<\/p>\n
